Chunghwa Telecom, HTC Jointly Develop Chinese-language Google Phone
March 14, 2008
Taiwanese telecom operator Chunghwa Telecom and Smartphone maker HTC are jointly developing a Chinese-language mobile phone based on Google's open-source Android platform, according to a Washington Post report on March 11 citing the vice president of Chunghwa Telecom's mobile business group. Chunghwa Telecom is therefore expected to become the first mobile operator to offer Chinese-language Google phones to its user.

It is also reported that the phone may be launched at year-end 2008 or in early 2009, but an English-language version will be rolled out first. Meanwhile, HTC revealed that the company expects to launch its own Android-based mobile phone in the second half of 2008.
